It goes without saying that THERE ARE MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. If you haven’t read this chapter of Onyx Storm, please go read it first.
Jeez, we’re only on Chapter 3, and I feel like we’re already diving so deep into this book and the action. We’re getting more insight into Lilith Sorrengail, and honestly, I’m here for it! I have so many questions about her, and I need to know everything.
Lilith speaks about Violet with so much love, it’s almost unbelievable. It’s becoming increasingly clear that Lilith Sorrengail was a morally grey character. One possible twist in the fable of her life is that Lilith may have loved Violet the most of all her children.
We also learn that Violet’s previous lovers were serious enough for both Lilith and her father to know about them. One of the theories gaining traction is that Halden might have been one of Violet’s previous lovers—and it makes a lot of sense. Jesinia and Violet both recognized Aaric’s eyes, but nowhere else in the book does it say that King Tauri has green eyes. When they mention “the same eyes,” it likely refers to Aaric and his older brother, Halden. Violet even said she would recognize those eyes anywhere. Indeed… indeed. I think Halden was her previous lover.
This theory also hints that Halden isn’t a good person—we already know this based on what Aaric has said so far.
Then there’s this little nugget: “Other gifts you’ve given her” and “logic will cede its voice to love.” Lilith isn’t wrong. Violet will do whatever it takes to save those she loves, but I just don’t think it’s possible… yet. But what are these “other gifts”? And who is Violet’s father??
We also get more about Lewellen, who is there representing Tyrrendor. The Serenium presentation is important, especially since Violet uses Andarna’s demands as a pretext to establish a task force to locate Andarna’s kind.
Another emerging plotline involves Tecarus and Violet. She has three days to uphold her end of a bargain. But which bargain is this? Am I missing something from Iron Flame, or is this entirely new information being set up?
And oh, Chapter 3 wasted no time bringing action between Violet and Xaden. There’s love, intensity, and… well, action. Great action, as always.
During their escapade, Xaden says something very interesting: “I can feel it. I can feel you.” I wonder if this connects to how he can sense her power. He did say “I can feel it” when referring to the hum of power in her veins, perhaps? I think this was a clever way of words to throw us off a little.
By the end, it’s clear that Xaden lost some of his incredible control—and maybe even his ability to channel. This is getting more and more fascinating. And this also iterates that the control theory was confirmed! Yay!
And one more thing—I feel like the author was hinting that we’re not going to get these two back in bed together for a long time.
Right, onto chapter 4 now…
