Onyx Storm Read Along – Chapter 49

It goes without saying that THERE ARE MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. If you haven’t read this chapter of Onyx Storm, please go read it first. Please note that some mild spoilers from future chapters will be found here.

Again, with the epigraph… so, so good:

While most deities allow temple attendants to choose their timeline of service, only two require a lifetime of dedication: Dunne and Loial. For both war and love change souls irrevocably.

Both war and love change souls. We all know that Dunne touched Violet. Lifetime of dedication. But remember what Violet said at some point—she stopped praying to Loial out of spite.

“Doubt Loial would let me in,” I mutter. “Can’t remember the last time I stepped foot in her temple.” I’d stopped praying to her years ago, along with Hedeon, out of pure spite. Love and wisdom hadn’t exactly shown up when I’d needed them to.”

And yet, in Iron Flame, Xaden called Violet… violence. For Dunne. Now he calls her love. Loial. One does beg the question—was Violet touched by Loial? I don’t think so. My money’s on Malek.

The chapter begins with Xaden and Violet’s escapades.

“What are you—”
“Worshipping.”

See? This again. And Xaden only just said:

“Grab hold, love.”

So who is he worshipping? Dunne or Loial? Or both?

“My power, my body, my soul—it’s all yours.”

I believe him. We all believe him, right? This is definitely an Easter egg for us. She has his soul. But does she have his power, I wonder?

Well, the chapter ends on a high. A reminder that despite how dark this book is getting, it is still a romantasy book. I love our protagonists.

  1. Political power? Will they be able to share power through the bond? Violet can wield pure power. Can she wield Xaden’s power?

    1. I think it’s both. Political power, for sure. But I think he was thinking that she might be able to wield him, right?
