About Lieutenant Colonel Degrensi

Lieutenant Colonel Degrensi is the commander of the outpost at Samara. He is known for establishing strict rules: “leave and pride.” The idea is simple yet demanding: if you desire something, you must be prepared to fight for it and, more importantly, be skilled enough to retain it.¹ 

Role in Empyrean Series

Iron Flame

Degrensi wrote a recommendation to to General Melgren that Major Burton Varrish be reassigned from an active wing due to three prisoners consecutively dying in his interrogations. ²

Xaden Riorson and Garrick Tavis are assigned under his command after graduating from Basgiath.³

Under Degrensi’s rules, Xaden fights Jarrett to get a pass to be with Violet. Such rules exclude the use of blades and signets, reducing the encounters to mere fistfights.⁴

He commanded the Samara outpost during the solstice venin attack.⁵

Onyx Storm

The second years of the Iron Squad were ordered to report to Degrensi, as punishment for altering the Basgiath Ward Stone.⁶ He met them in the courtyard of Samara, and informed the squad that fighting had ceased on the Navarre side of the border the day before. Not apt to send cadets into battle, he ordered them to rest then make themselves useful.⁷

Degrensi signed off on the Iron Squad’s early return from Samara due to Violet’s injuries.⁸
