The Last Teaser Is Here: Rebecca Yarros’ Onyx Storm Begins with a Bang!

Happy New Year! Oh. My. Goodness. Rebecca Yarros just dropped the LAST teaser for her upcoming release, and let me tell you—if you thought your excitement couldn’t get any higher, brace yourself, because this snippet is pure adrenaline. Clearly, we’re diving headfirst into Onyx Storm, and it’s a whirlwind from the very first line!

“You can fight it all you want, but that power streaming through her veins?” Jack taunts, his words growing clearer as I near the final few turns. “There’s a reason the higher-ups want her. A little brotherly advice? Fall in line and find someone else to fuck. That infamous control of yours so much as flickers in her direction-“

“I would never,” Xaden retorts, his voice lethally icy.

My heart rate doubles and I halt just before the last curve in the stairwell, keeping out of sight. Jack’s talking about me.

“Even you don’t get a say in which parts of us are taken first, Riorson.” Jack laughs. “But speaking from personal experience, control goes quickly. Just look at you, freshly fed from the source and already down here, desperate for a cure. You will slip, and afterward… Well, let’s just say that silver hair that has you so besotted will be gray like the rest of her, and those weak-ass initiate rings in your eyes won’t just last a few days— they’ll be permanent.”

Let’s break it down. The scene opens with tension so thick, you could cut it with a blade. And yes, we clearly continue right from the where we left off.

Jack Barlowe’s taunts are razor-sharp, laced with ominous foreboding, and Xaden’s retort? Lethal, icy perfection. Just reading it, you can feel your heart racing—and that’s before you even realize Jack is talking about Violet. Our Violet, being wanted by the higher ups.

So we have confirmation, she is wanted for the power that runs through her veins. But…why? How is she going to be used?

Let’s just say, this conversation is the kind that leaves you breathless, desperate for more.

Jack’s words drip with danger: “That infamous control of yours so much as flickers in her direction—” Oh, the audacity! And Xaden’s reply? Absolute chills. It’s that balance of ferocity and restraint that makes him the perfect storm (pun intended). But Jack doesn’t stop there, oh no. He ups the stakes with a haunting prophecy of what could happen if Xaden falters. Weakness? Permanent consequences?

And silver hair turning gray? Say what now? The implications here are massive, and Rebecca Yarros knows exactly how to leave us hanging on the edge. Let’s pay closer attention to this because there is a clear distinction between gray hair and silver hair.

I honestly thought that Violet’s tips are silver because she’s been partly drained in her mother’s womb, right? Hmm…maybe not the case?

But there’s more. SHE will be gray…not dead. Not drained. GRAY. WHAT does this mean? Can she be drained? Will she recover from it? Is there more to this sentence?

This is just the tiniest taste of what’s to come, and it’s already clear that Onyx Storm isn’t just going to pull us into its world; it’s going to grab us by the soul and drag us through every heart-stopping moment. Action? Check. Intrigue? Double check. Searing emotional stakes? Oh, you’d better believe it.

So, what does this teaser tell us about what’s ahead? For one, we’re getting thrown into the action right from the start. No slow burn here—it’s like stepping onto a speeding train. This is the kind of storytelling that demands your attention, and let’s be honest—you’re already hooked.

If you’re anything like me, you’re counting down the seconds until release day. Onyx Storm is shaping up to be everything we hoped for and more. So buckle up, readers. The storm is coming, and it’s going to be absolutely epic.

  1. I didn’t think anything of the grey to be honest, just the dust a venin leaves after sucking the life out of something?

But…how about “weak-ass initiate rings in your eyes won’t just last a few days— they’ll be permanent”!!! That means Xaden isn’t venin just yet. He’ll need to control himself for a few days and than they’ll fade right?

    1. I think he is venin alright, but I think there was something with initiates. Wait, let me dig it out.
right, I’m back. Found it: “Initiates have reddish rings to their eyes that come and go depending on how often they drain.”

  2. I cant wait to read Onyx Storm. And Im curious, we have just two books left and we still dont know the modern language and and how Jesinia will be Chief of the Clerk’s Division.

    1. We do not…I think it will be revealed in book 5!
