Ideas aren’t a continuous stream of thoughts, and sometimes the well is empty.

Here are a few things I do to get the creative juices flowing again.

    1. Take a break and distance myself from the project. It is hard, since you spend a lot of time on it, but if you keep thinking about it you will stay in a slump.

    2. Read books, a lot of them. To get ideas, but also to take a break. From reading you might be able to solve a plot hole you’ve been pondering on for weeks.

    3. Go over your own manuscript again. Going through it again might spark some ideas as well as help you sharpen the story and save you some time with editing later on.

Of course you can do a lot of other things, but these I feel are very simple but highly effective.

    Happy writing!

Thank you Raffaello …. I have started a little file list of your tips and thoughts on writing. It is very helpful. I’ve been very busy this week and am just barely getting a little time online today to respond to things that have come in all week. I particularly like your thoughts on 1st vs 3rd person. In my SIM writing, we always use 3rd person, so that’s what I am most comfortable with, but I have greatly enjoyed R Yarros approach in 1st. Keep sending ideas and thoughts. They do not fall on completely deaf ears. When I have more time, I try to reply in more detail. Have a good weekend.
