First person vs Third person

Most Fantasy and Romance books are from the first person, but there are just as many third person books.

I’m writing in the first person. Which supposedly is ‘easier’ for new writers, as you don’t have to deal with switching perspectives and telling the readers things the MC does not know.

First person is great if your story is a bit more focusing on character development and want the reader to have a strong connection to the MC. What makes it hard is that you have to make your MC ‘likeable’. If the readers doesn’t like (or doesn’t connect) with your character they will lay down the book and won’t pick it up again.

Third person is great for plot driven stories. You let the reader see the story unfold before the MC knows it is happening. What makes it hard is that you need to be careful with switching scenes and perspectives, to not confuse, or even bore the reader.

Writing is a craft, and there is no formula, only guidelines.

Both are great for writing, and there is no better perspective. They all have their pros and cons

    Which one do you prefer?
