Rereading IF for the 4th time and I noticed in the first excerpt that they’re a “Neilwart” and Jesinia is a Neilwart so it got me thinking – could she have been a GOOD scribe that HELPED hide the fact Aretia didn’t actually burn to the ground? I think Jesinia’s character speaks volumes so I wondered what her relations character was like.

Funny story CadetPhillips, I’ve just started a book club read along on the main site because I’m reading the series AGAIN -> https://www.empyreanriders.com/empyrean-series-book-club/

Check the surname of Jesinia again. It’s different.

One is Nielwart and the other is Neilwart. Was it on purpose? Was it a mistake? It’s consistent tho. In both fourth wing and iron flame, Jesinia is a Neilwart while Cerella is a Nielwart. Confusing AF!

Ooooo yesssss pleeeaaassee! πŸ€—πŸ’• I’m in! Haha also – can’t believe I missed that spelling difference! The teacher in me is mortified! πŸ˜±πŸ™ˆπŸ€£πŸ€£ but…it is almost 11pm here so maybe you can forgive me? πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

There is nothing to forgive. The only reason I caught this is because a couple of months ago, for a theory, I was desperately searching for one surname in the book and couldn’t find it….then when I searched for Cerella BOOM. That’s when I figured it out.

Amazing! I still can’t believe I’m reading it for the 4th and STILL finding things I didn’t notice or pay as close attention to earlier! 😱😍πŸ₯ΉπŸ₯³

reading them for the second time here.

How many picked up on the “red” rimmed (eyes of Jack Barlow in Fourth Wing, as he was using his power to cause vibrating energy, and the assassin that killed Nadine in Iron Flame, and then attacked and tried to kill Violet?

I noticed the description the first time but not the significance. When I got to my first time through IF and noticed the same description of assassins I went back and double checked Barlowes description. 😱πŸ₯³

I know we are all wondering about the rune like scar on Brennan’s hand, but I was also considering the fact that because he was surrounded by marked ones, he was hidden from Melgren knowing he survived – which I think is going to be key to the plot twist coming (which I 100% think is going to be Naolin)

Easter egg – no one has actually said Naolin is dead – Brennan flexed his jaw when beginning to say “Naolin was…” and then Violet cut him off and made assumptions on what he was going to say. Tairn interrupts in her head and says “we will not speak of the rider who came before” and didn’t specify whether he died. Sgaeyl has spoken to Xaden about his relation, other cadets have told stories about their dragons talking about their past riders so why the big deal for Tairn? Also when Brennan finally speaks he says “Naolin didn’t fail but it cost him everything” — how many times have both books emphasised that taking magic from the land instead of the dragon costs everything? And finally – Xaden feeling 100% certain that the sage was after him. Who started the rebellion? His father. And what did they lead to? It costing Naolin everything – I’m wondering if there’s a personal vendetta there. I’m wondering if the sage wants Violet not just for her power but for the leverage she brings Xaden down to his knees with.

Also just going to put out there – apparently Naolin means “God of the Sun”….interesting!

    …ok I’ll give someone else a turn now. πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ€£πŸ€£

It does mean the God of Sun. Because he is the God of Sun πŸ˜› like literal God…(IMO)

And no, I don’t think he is dead. But I don’t think he’s alive either. He’s a cute lil venin somewhere. πŸ˜€

Really good theory about Brennan’s scar. Want to write a full theory about it? I can publish it on your behalf with credit and work on it as well. I think it deserves to be put out there. That the scar somehow has a similar effect as the rebellion relics to hide him. It’s an excellent theory and catch!

Oh my goodness you guys! Just read this again and whoooaaa! Violet calls Varrish inhuman! 😱😱😱 okay okay — I know from being a teacher myself that students say stuff like that eg “that teacher’s a robot” etc lol BUT I’ve got into this mindset that every line RY writes is a clue! Haha thoughts?

Also now I REALLY want to know…has there ever been a line describing a venin or red-rimmed eye person in either book as sweating?!? Help me find out please! πŸ˜¬πŸ™πŸ«Ά lol

Felix “You wield pure power which takes the form of lightning because that’s what you’re most comfortable shaping it as”

Does this mean she’s not actually a lightning wielder because she could make it take other forms?

Does this mean that in the upcoming books we may see a plot twist in her ORIGINAL signet? Eg – people keep theorising she was running fast and that could be a second signet but could it just be her “pure power” taking another form?

In FW Tairn explains when talking about Andarna and her power of slowing time: “Bonding too young allows them to give their gift directly and a rider could easily drain them and burn out”. So if Violet’s signet is pure power like Felix said and Andarna GAVE her gift directly TO Violet, is it possibly Violet can slow time but doesn’t actually know it yet? Because Andarna says it’s gone so she assumes it’s gone? Did she move fast when running at Aretia or did she without knowing it slow everything else down a little?

@Cory excited to hear your thoughts!! πŸ₯³
